How Online Casino Bonuses Work
A bonus is funds or free attempts that a casino adds to a player's deposit or awards without a deposit. You cannot withdraw bonus money immediately: you must wager it — place bets totalling a specified amount in games, after which winnings become available for withdrawal. Wagering rules are set out in the terms of each bonus and vary from casino to casino.
Key bonus parameters: size (percentage of deposit or fixed amount), wagering requirements, validity period, maximum bet in play, and list of games that count towards wagering. If conditions are not met within the time limit, the bonus and associated winnings are forfeited.
Wagering Requirement
The wagering requirement shows how much you need to wager in games to clear the bonus. Usually expressed as "x30", "x40" — a multiplier applied to the bonus amount or the bonus plus deposit. Example: bonus is one hundred euros, wagering requirement is x30 on the bonus amount — you must wager three thousand euros in eligible games.
Bets in different games count differently. Slots usually count fully (a ten-euro bet equals ten euros towards wagering), roulette and table games may count partially (e.g. only ten per cent of the bet) or not at all. The specific weighting of each game is stated in the bonus terms.
Wagering Period
A bonus is valid for a limited time — from a few days to a month. If you do not complete the wagering within this period, the bonus and winnings from it are voided. The timer starts from the moment the bonus is activated or credited; check the rules for the exact start point.
Maximum Bet
Whilst wagering a bonus, there is usually a limit on the size of a single bet in a game — for example, no more than five euros per spin. If the bet exceeds this limit, the casino may void the bonus and all related winnings. The limit is stated in the terms; if there is none, there is no restriction, but it's best to check with support.
Maximum Winnings
Some bonuses cap the amount you can withdraw after wagering. If the limit is, for example, one thousand euros, then if you win two thousand, only one thousand is available for withdrawal and the rest is deducted. This is more common with no-deposit bonuses and free spins.
Welcome Bonus
A welcome bonus is awarded to a new player on their first deposit. Usually it is a percentage of the deposit amount — the casino adds extra funds to your deposit. Sometimes the bonus is split across several deposits: first, second, third — each with its own percentages and limits.
Example structure: one hundred per cent on the first deposit, fifty per cent on the second. Wagering and validity period may be common to the entire package or separate for each stage. Read the terms on the promotion page at the casino — it states how much you need to deposit, what percentage will be added, what the wagering requirement is, and how long you have to meet it.
Activation: sometimes the bonus is credited automatically, sometimes you need to enter a promo code or tick a box when depositing. If you do not want the bonus, simply do not activate it; without a bonus, your money is available for withdrawal without wagering.

High Roller Bonus
A high roller bonus is designed for players who make large deposits. Usually it is a separate offer with an increased percentage or a higher bonus amount cap. The minimum deposit to activate a high roller bonus is higher than in standard promotions.
Wagering conditions are generally the same as for regular bonuses — wagering requirement, time limit, bet limit. The difference is that the bonus amount can be significantly larger, meaning the required wagering sum will increase proportionally. Before activating, check the wagering requirement and make sure it is realistic to wager that amount within the allotted time.
High roller bonuses are often available on request via support or in your account under the VIP programme section. A list of casinos with such offers is on the high roller bonuses page.
Free Spins
Free spins are free attempts on slot machines. The casino awards a certain number of spins on a specific slot or a choice from a list of games. Winnings from free spins are credited to the bonus balance and are subject to wagering.
The wagering requirement on free spin winnings is usually lower than on cash bonuses, but is still present. The wagering period starts from the moment winnings are credited or free spins are activated — check the terms. The maximum withdrawal amount from free spins is often capped.
Free spins may be part of a welcome package, a standalone promotion, or a loyalty programme reward. Sometimes they are awarded without a deposit — as a registration bonus. Details and casinos offering free spins are on the free spins page.
What to Check Before Activating
Before activating a bonus, read the full terms on the casino site. Pay attention to the following points:
- Wagering requirement: what total stake is required, what the multiplier is based on (bonus only or bonus plus deposit).
- Validity period: how long you have to complete wagering.
- Maximum bet: is there a limit on bet size in play.
- Games: which games count towards wagering and with what weighting; sometimes entire categories (e.g. table games) are excluded.
- Maximum winnings: is the withdrawal amount capped after wagering.
- Minimum deposit: how much you need to deposit to activate the bonus.
- Payment methods: some deposit methods (e.g. Skrill, Neteller) may be excluded from bonus eligibility.
If the terms are not stated on the promotion page or are unclear, contact casino support before depositing. It is better to clarify in advance than to lose the bonus due to an unmet requirement.
Bonuses and Latvian Legislation
Casinos in the site rating are international platforms without a licence from the State Revenue Service of Latvia (VID). They operate under offshore licences (e.g. Curaçao) and are not regulated by Latvian law. Participation in gambling on such sites carries risks: VID may block access to the site, a bank may decline a payment, and Latvian regulator protection does not extend to disputes with the operator.
Advertising of gambling is prohibited in Latvia, so bonus offers from such casinos are only visible on their own sites or international affiliate resources not exclusively targeted at Latvia. The VID register of self-excluded persons, which you can join to ban yourself from gambling, does not apply to offshore platforms.
If you decide to play on an international site, check for a licence in the casino site footer, review the withdrawal terms, and make sure you understand the bonus rules. Responsibility for participation in games on platforms not licensed in Latvia lies with the player.
How We Rate Casino Bonuses
When compiling ratings, we check transparency of terms: how clearly requirements are set out, whether there are hidden clauses that could lead to bonus forfeiture. We look at the size of the wagering requirement, the wagering period, the presence of bet and win limits, and bonus availability for players in Latvia.
We consider the variety of promotions: whether there are welcome offers, loyalty programmes, and regular bonuses for active players. We check which games count towards wagering and how realistic it is to meet the conditions within the allotted time. Our overall casino evaluation methodology is described on the methodology page.
Deposit Methods for Bonus Activation
To receive a bonus you need to make a deposit. Casinos accept various methods:
See the range of available methods in the cashier of the specific casino. A bank may decline a payment to an unlicensed gambling site — this is a decision the bank makes. The main account currency at casinos is the euro; some platforms support US dollars and cryptocurrencies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I cancel a bonus after activation?
It depends on the casino's rules. Some platforms allow you to cancel a bonus in your account, in which case the bonus and all related winnings are voided; the deposit remains. Other casinos do not allow cancellation of an activated bonus — you must either wager it or wait for it to expire. Check with support before depositing.
What happens if I exceed the maximum bet?
The casino will usually void the bonus and all winnings obtained during wagering. This is stated in the terms. Before playing, check the bet limit and do not exceed it, even accidentally — the system may automatically record a breach.
Do bets in live casino count towards wagering?
Not always. Many casinos exclude live dealer games from bonus wagering or count them at a low percentage (e.g. ten per cent of the bet). Specific rules are stated in the bonus terms — look for the game weighting section or contribution table.
Can I withdraw funds before completing wagering?
You can request a withdrawal, but the bonus and associated winnings will be voided. You will only be able to withdraw the amount of your own deposit (if it has not been lost) without the bonus portion. If you want to keep the chance of winnings from the bonus, complete the wagering requirement in full.
Why was my bonus not credited after deposit?
Possible reasons: minimum deposit not met, an excluded payment method used (e.g. Skrill or Paysafecard), promo code not entered, activation box not ticked when depositing, promotion expired. Check the terms and contact casino support — usually the issue is resolved quickly if the deposit met the requirements.
Remember: participation in gambling is permitted from the age of eighteen. If you feel that gambling is getting out of control, use the register of self-excluded persons of the State Revenue Service of Latvia (VID) — the minimum ban period is twelve months. Gamble responsibly.
